Antique linen and cotton embroidered hand guided on a Cornely machine with black cotton thread. The Cornely is a machine embroidery designed in the 19th century. It is hand-guided by means of a crank, which gives a great freedom of movement. This forgotten know-how is still used in France by a few people today. This type of embroidery is suitable for more frequent washing.

The kitchen towels have been dyed with natural dye in Marseille, with the sustainable clothing brand Azur.
The Aniseed green towel (hand) is dyed with St. John’s wort, the Terracotta towel (cutlery) with catechism, the Rusty towel with coreopsis and oak.

Origin & Caring

These kitchen towels are made in Marseille and Paris, France.

The fabrics are linen & cotton sheets collected from private individuals all over France. They are between 50 and 100 years old. Each sheet has a family history. They have been carefully selected and cleaned before being resized and then dyed with natural dye in Marseille.

These towels are designed by Sarah and then embroidered on a Cornely embroidery machine guided by hand by a professional embroiderer in Paris.

Care of embroidered and plant dyed linen.

Turn inside-out, hand wash or machine wash at or below 30°C with alike colors with eco detergent. Gentle spin. Do not wring. Dry on a hanger in the shade. Colors may fade if left in the sun. Iron while it is still slightly wet at medium temperature or use a steamer. Do not spot clean. Store in a dark place.

A little tip: don’t let the laundry dry completely, it will be easier to iron.

Iron your towel on the reverse side of the embroidery while it is still wet.
